Zimbabwe's ruling party and opposition are resuming talks on resolving their country's violent political crisis.
A spokesman for South African President Thabo Mbeki says delegations of the ruling ZANU-PF and the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) are holding discussions in Pretoria (,South Africa).
Sources say the talks are focused on ways of overcoming stumbling blocks to full negotiations about Zimbabwe's political future. MDC officials have described the talks as preliminary.
On Wednesday, a lawyer for MDC's chief negotiator Tendai Biti requested that a court return his passport so that he could participate in the talks.
Both sides have been under heavy international pressure to enter talks since the re-election of Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe on June 27th in a widely-condemned run-off vote in which he was the only candidate.
