전세계 가정과 사무실에 컴퓨터를 제공한 소프트웨어 기업 마이크로소프트 사의 빌 게이츠 회장이 27일 회사 설립 33년만에 경영일선에서 물러났습니다.
재산이 580억 달러에 달하는 것으로 추정되는 게이츠 회장은 이제부터 지난 1994년에 부인 멜린다와 세운 자선사업인 "빌 앤드 멜린다 게이츠 재단"에 전념할 계획입니다.
게이츠 회장은 앞으로 마이크로소프트사의 이사회 의장과 최고경영자 스티브 발머의 고문으로 일주일에 단시간만 근무할 예정입니다.
미국 경제전문지 포브스에 따르면, 게이츠는 미국 투자가 워렌 버펫과 브라질 사업가 카를로스 슬림 헬루에 이어 세계 3대 갑부입니다.

Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation, steps
down today (Friday) after 33 years as leader of the software giant that
helped introduce computers to homes and offices around the globe.
Gates, who is worth an estimated 58-billion dollars, will now focus on leading
the charitable foundation he and his wife, Melinda, founded in 1994.
The "Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation" has trust endowments of more
than 37 billion dollars. The foundation's Web site says it is dedicated to
"reducing inequities in the United States and around the world."
The organization has programs to fight poverty, hunger, and improve healthcare.
Gates still plans to work part-time at Microsoft, serving as board chairman and
advisor to Microsoft's CEO, Steve Ballmer.
Forbes magazine says Gates is the world's third richest man, behind - American
investor Warren Buffett, and Mexican businessman Carlos Slim Helu.
In 2006, Buffett pledged stock worth more than 30 billion dollars to the Gates
Foundation.
