야당 민주변화동맹(MDC)의 모건 창기라이 총재는 수 주에 걸쳐 무가베 대통령의 집권 여당이 야당 지지자들을 위협하고 선거에서 승리하기 위해 폭력을 사용한다고 비난해 왔습니다.

Witnesses in Zimbabwe say ruling
party militia are warning people to vote in Friday's presidential run-off
election in which President Robert Mugabe is the only candidate.
Journalists and witnesses tell VOA (Studio 7 Zimbabwe) that the
pro-Mugabe militia have said they will check people's hands for ink to show that
they cast their ballot. They say the militia are threatening to beat people who
do not vote.
For several weeks, the opposition Movement for Democratic Change has accused
the ZANU-PF party of using violence in an effort to intimidate opponents and
secure victory.
MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai withdrew from the poll this week, saying 86 of his
supporters have been killed in the run-up to the vote. However, Zimbabwe's
electoral commission says the pullout came too late to be legal, and that the
vote will go ahead as planned.
Speaking in Japan today, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said no one
believes the run-off is going to be a legitimate election.
