파키스탄 당국자는 24일 탈레반 무장세력이 점령했다고 알려진 북서부 도시에 대한 지휘권을 파키스탄 측이 갖고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
지방 정부 관리인 바카툴라 마르와드 씨는 이 날 '미국의 소리' 방송과의 인터뷰에서 이같이 밝히며, 남와지리스탄에서 가까운 잔돌라 시가 탈레반 무장세력 측으로 넘어갔다는 이번 주 초 언론 보도를 부인했습니다.
바이툴라 메수드를 지지하는 무장세력들은 23일 늦게 잔돌라로 넘어가 이 지역 친 정부 쪽 정파의 사령관이 이끄는 부족과 충돌을 빚었으나 이 지역에 대한 주도권을 잡지 못했습니다.
이 날 교전으로 최소 12명이 사망했습니다.

Pakistani security officials have control of a northwest
town that was reported to be held by Taliban militants.
Local government official Barkatullah Marwad spoke with VOA today (Tuesday) and
rejected earlier news reports that the town of Jandola, near South Waziristan,
had fallen to the Taliban.
Militants loyal to Baitullah Mehsud moved into Jandola late Monday and clashed
with tribesmen led by Turkistan Bittani, commander of a pro-government faction
in the region, but they did not manage to seize control.
At least 12 people were killed in the fighting.
The clash comes as Pakistan's new government tries to strike a peace deal with
militants in the tribal region.
Marwad says local tribal councils are being engaged to try and promote peace in
the region.
Elsewhere in Pakistan's northwest, military officials say militants attacked a
military convoy in the Swat Valley today (Tuesday). At least one
militant was killed and another wounded, when troops responded to the attack.
