미국은 시리아 알-키바르의 파괴된 건물이 북한의 지원으로 건설된 핵 시설이며, 파괴될 당시 가동이 임박했었다는 입장입니다.
시리아는 이런 주장을 부인했으며, 파괴된 시설은 건설 중인 군사 기지의 일부였다고 말했습니다. 시리아 정부는 소규모 의료용과 농업 연구용 핵 프로그램만을 운영한다는 입장입니다.

Top U.N. atomic experts left Vienna for Syria today (Sunday) for a three-day visit to inspect a site bombed by Israel last year because it was suspected of being a nuclear facility.
International Atomic Energy Agency deputy chief Olli Heinonen will head the team. As he prepared to leave Austria, he told reporters the experts plan to meet with Syrian officials and begin work as soon as they arrive in Damascus later today.
The United States has said the Al - Kibar site was built with the help of North Korea, and was close to becoming operational when it was bombed.
Syria denies the reports, saying the buildings were part of a military base under construction. Damascus says its only current nuclear program is a small medical and agricultural research effort.
