사우디아라비아는 전세게 사회적 경제적 혼란을 초래하고 있는 에너지 위기사태를 완화시키기 위해 소비국들이 원유증산을 필요로 한다면 원유를 증산할 용의로 있다고 말했습니다.
세계 최대 석유 수출국인 사우디의 알리 알-나이미 석유장관은 22일 소비국들의 요청이 있을 경우 하루에 또다른 250만 배럴을 더 생산할 수도 있다고 말했습니다. 이는 사우디가 하루 원유생산량을 20만 배럴 더 늘려 9백 70만 배럴 증산할 계획의 추가적인 것이 될 것입니다.
이같은 제의는 사우디의 압둘라 국왕이 22일 에너지 위기사태 문제를 논의하기 위해 사우디 제다에 모인 주요 석유생산국과 소비국등 38개국 대표들에게 제시한 보다 광범위한 계획안의 일환입니다.
압둘라 국왕은 이날 고유가로 허덕이는 빈곤국들을 돕기 위해 10억 달러를 지원할 것이라고 다짐했습니다.
압둘라 국왕은 유가가 치솟는 원인은 제한된 공급이 아닌 투기와 높은 연료 세금 때문인 것으로 믿고 있다고 말했습니다.

Saudi Arabia says it is willing to
produce more oil if consumers need it to help ease an energy crisis that has
caused social and economic turmoil around the world.
Saudi Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi said today (Sunday) the world's largest
oil exporter could produce another two-and-a-half million barrels a day if
consumers request it. That would be in addition to plans to boost Saudi
Arabia's daily oil output next month by 200-thousand barrels to
nine-point-seven million barrels.
The offer is part of a broader plan Saudi King Abdullah presented to oil
producers and consumers gathered in Jeddah to address the energy crisis.
The king pledged one billion dollars to help poor countries cope with the high
cost of fuel.
He said he believes speculation and high fuel taxes, not limited supplies, are
driving up oil prices.
