'액션 에이드'는 '사라지는 딸들'이라는 제목의 보고서에서 초음파로 성별을 감지해 성별에 따라 낙태하는 것을 금지하는 법규를 보다 엄격히 집행해야 한다고 밝혔습니다.

A new report finds
the ratio of girls to boys in India has hit an all-time low, with more families
taking measures to prevent the birth of daughters.
British-based charity, ActionAid, released figures this week showing the ratio
of girls to boys in northern India has widened and accelerated since the last
nationwide census in 2001.
In the northern state of Punjab, the number of girls has plummeted to just 300
for every one-thousand boys among high-caste families.
In its report titled "Disappearing Daughters," ActionAid calls for
tougher enforcement of laws banning sex selective abortions, and the use of
ultrasound to determine the sex of a child.
The charity also says India must address economic and social barriers including
property rights, marriage dowries and gender roles that condemn girls before
they are even born.
