대나 페리노 백악관 대변인은 9일 부시 대통령이 마이클 돈리를 신임 공군장관에 지명했다고 밝혔습니다. 페리노 대변인은 돈리 대변인이 상원 인준 전까지 직무대행으로 일할 것이라고 말했습니다.
돈리 지명자는 미 의회 상원과 하원, 국방부 등에서 26년간 국가 안보 관련 업무를 맡았었습니다.
앞서 마이클 윈 전 공군장관과 마이클 모슬리 전 공군참모총장은 핵 탄두와 유도미사일에 쓰이는 전기 퓨즈가 잘못 운반된 사고의 책임을 지고 지난 주 물러났습니다.

U.S. President George Bush has nominated a national security expert to be the civilian chief of the Air Force, after the former chief resigned over the poor handling of nuclear weapons.
A White House spokeswoman (Dana Perino) said today (Monday) that Mr. Bush has nominated Michael Donley to serve as Air Force secretary. She said Donley will be acting secretary until his nomination is approved by the Senate.
Donley has more than 26 years of experience in the national security community, including service in the Senate, White House and the Defense Department.
The former Air Force secretary (Michael Wynne) and chief of staff (General Michael Moseley) resigned last week because of mistakes made in the transport of nuclear warheads and electrical fuses used in ballistic missiles.
