유엔은 국제 식량가격의 상승을 억제하기 위해 매년1백50억 달러에서 2백억 달러가 필요할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
반기문 유엔 사무총장은 이탈리아 로마에서 열린 세계 식량안보 정상회의에서, 세계 각국이 절박한 마음으로 식량위기에 공동 대처해 달라고 요청하면서 이같이 말했습니다.
1백80개국 이상이 참석한 이번 정상회의에서 세계은행의 로버트 졸릭 총재는 최근 국제상품 가격의 급등은 무역장벽이 일부 원인이 됐던 만큼, 세계각국이 무역 장벽을 제거해야 한다고 강조했습니다.
한편 유엔 세계식량계획의 조세트 쉬란 집행이사는 국제사회가 12억 달러를 추가 기부한다면 60개국의 7천5백만 명에게 식량을 지원할 수 있을 것이라고 말했습니다.

The United Nations says it will take 15 to 20-billion dollars each year to stem the tide of soaring food prices that have pushed millions of the world's poorest people toward the brink of starvation.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today (Wednesday) urged countries attending the world food summit in Rome to act collectively and with a sense of urgency to combat the crisis. He told delegates "this is a fight we can not afford to lose."
Delegates from more than 180 countries also heard World Bank President Robert Zoellick call on governments to lift trade barriers. He said those barriers are partly to blame for sharp price hikes for many commodities.
Meanwhile, the head of the World Food Program says new donations of one-point-two billion dollars will provide sustenance for 75 million people currently going hungry in 60 nations.
