서방국들은 2일 이탈리아 로마에서 열린 유엔 주최 식량 안보 회의에 로버트 무가베 짐바브웨 대통령이 참석한 데 대해 비난했습니다.
이번 회의의 영국 측 대표인 더글라스 알렉산더 국제개발 장관은 무가베 대통령의 회의 참석에 대해 분노한다며 무가베 대통령과 악수를 하지도, 만나지도 않을 것이라고 말했습니다.
알렉산더 장관은 이 날 BBC 라디오와의 인터뷰에서 짐바브웨가 식량 원조에 기대고 있는 것은 무가베 대통령의 '심각한 실정' 때문이라며 이같이 말했습니다.
스테판 스미스 호주 외무장관도 무가베 대통령의 참석에 대해 혐오스럽다며, 무가베 대통령이 짐바브웨 국민들의 기아를 이끌었다고 비난했습니다.
짐바브웨는 식량 부족으로 고통받고 있으며, 물가 상승률은 16만%가 넘습니다.
무가베 대통령은 이에 대해 서방국들의 제재 때문이라고 비난하고 있습니다.

Western countries are condemning the presence of Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe at a United Nations-sponsored food security conference in Rome.
Britain's representative at the summit, International Development Secretary Douglas Alexander, says he is outraged by Mr. Mugabe's attendance and will neither shake hands nor meet with the Zimbabwean leader.
In a (BBC) radio interview, Alexander said Zimbabweans' reliance on food aid is the result of what he called Mr. Mugabe's "profound misrule."
Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith called Mr. Mugabe's presence "obscene," and accused Mr. Mugabe of "presiding over the starvation of his people."
Zimbabwe is struggling with food shortages and inflation of over 160-thousand percent. Critics blame the problems on Mr. Mugabe's policy of redistributing white-owned commercial farms. Food production has plunged since the farm seizures began in 2000.
Mr. Mugabe blames the problems on Western sanctions against members of his government.
