과학자들은 세계 주요 경제대국들의 에너지, 환경 장관들에 대해 유가 상승으로 온실가스 배출량 증가 속도가 위협받고 있다고 24일 경고했습니다.
G8 소속국들과 중국 등의 국가 장관들은 오는 7월 G 8 정상회담에 앞서 일본 고베에서 회담을 가졌습니다.
G 8은 미국, 일본, 영국, 프랑스, 독일, 이탈리아, 캐나다 등 서방 선진 7개국과 러시아로 구성돼 있으며, 매 년 한차례씩 각 국 대통령과 총리가 참가하는 정상회담을 개최하고 있습니다.
일본과 미국은 이번 회담과 오는 G 8 정상회담에서 이른바 '청정 기술연구'를 추진할 예정입니다. 그러나 과학자들과 환경학자들은 유가 상승으로 석탄과 같은 저가의 하급 연료 소비가 늘어날 것을 경고했습니다.
한편, 주최국인 일본 측은 장관들이 3일간의 이번 회담에서 이른바 '쿨 비즈'를 도입할 것을 촉구했습니다.
'쿨 비즈'란 따뜻한 날씨에 에어컨 사용량을 줄이기 위해 상의와 넥타이를 벗는 일본 측의 캠페인을 일컫습니다.

Scientists warned energy and environment ministers from the world's fastest growing and largest economies that rising oil prices threaten to speed the increase of greenhouse gas emissions.
Ministers from the Group of Eight nations, and their counterparts from other countries including China, met in Kobe, Japan Saturday ahead of the G8 summit in July.
Japan and the United States are expected to push so called "clean technology research" at this meeting and the summit.
But scientists and environmentalists warned that rising oil prices could spur a shift to cheaper and dirtier fuels such as coal.
The Japanese hosts have urged ministers and others attending the three-day meeting to adopt their "cool biz" initiative while in Kobe.
"Cool biz" is a Japanese effort encouraging people to take off jackets and neckties during warm weather to reduce the need for air conditioning.
