미국 민주당의 에드워드 케네디 상원의원이 치명적인 악성 뇌종양을 앓고 있다고 발표한지 하루만인 21일 병원에서 퇴원했습니다. 올해 76살인 케네디 의원은 이날 메사추세츠주 보스턴의 병원을 떠나 케이프 코드에 있는 자택으로 돌아갔습니다.
케네디 의원의 가족과 담당 의료진은 치료법으로 방사능과 화학요법을 고려하고 있습니다. 일반적으로 악성 뇌종양 환자들 가운데 절반가량은 병에 걸린지 일년 안에 사망합니다.
케네디 의원은 지난 17일 심장 발작 증세를 보여 병원에 입원해 검사를 받아왔습니다. 케네디 의원은 45년 넘게 상원의원을 지냈으며 지난 1963년에 암살된 존 F 케네디 대통령의 막내동생입니다.

Doctors for U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy say he has a malignant brain tumor.
Kennedy has been undergoing tests this week at a hospital in (the northeastern state of) Massachusetts to find out the cause of a seizure he had on Saturday. Doctors say they will decide treatment for the tumor after more tests.
Doctors say the 76-year-old Democrat has not suffered any new seizures and that he is in good overall condition.
Kennedy, who has had health problems in the past, was rushed to the hospital on Saturday after suffering the seizure.
The Massachusetts lawmaker has served in the Senate for more than 45 years, and is the youngest brother of the late President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1963.
