짐바브웨 군 정보기관이 야당인 민주변화동맹의 대통령 후보 모건 칭기라이씨를 암살하려 기도했다고 민주변화동맹이 비난하고 나섰습니다.
민주변화동맹의 텐다이 비티 사무총장은 케냐의 수도 나이로비에서 가진 기자회견에서 짐바브웨 군이 저격수 18명을 동원해 칭기라이 후보를 암살할 계획을 세웠으나, 칭기라이 후보가 이 사실을 알고 귀국을 연기했다고 밝혔습니다.
이에 대해 짐바브웨 정부는 민주변화동맹이 근거 없는 주장으로 정치적 이득을 챙기려 하고 있다고 비난했습니다.
한편 어제 대통령 결선투표를 앞둔 유세중에 민주변화동맹은 오는 6월27일로 예정된 이번 결선투표에서 로버트 무가베 현 대통령의 28년 장기 통치를 끝내겠다고 다짐했습니다.

Zimbabwe's main opposition party has accused the government's military intelligence of plotting to assassinate presidential candidate Morgan Tsvangirai.
The secretary-general of the Movement for Democratic Change, Tendai Biti, told a news conference in Nairobi (Kenya) today (Monday) that the military was planning to use 18 snipers against Mr. Tsvangirai, who has delayed his return from abroad because of the alleged plot.
Biti said the MDC had firm evidence pointing to military intelligence involvement, but he did not present any factual documentation to the media, saying this would put lives at risk.
Zimbabwe's government says that such accusations are baseless, and that Mr. Tsvangirai is trying to score cheap political gains.
