Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton is hoping a big win in today's (Tuesday's) primary election in (the eastern state of) West Virginia will keep her campaign alive as her rival, Barack Obama, closes in on the nomination.
Clinton is expected to win the rural, mountainous state by a wide margin. But, with only a small number of Democratic delegates at stake (28), a Clinton victory is unlikely to have a big impact on Obama's overall lead.
Clinton's campaign hopes a decisive win in West Virginia will convince superdelegates that she is the better candidate.
Superdelegates are party officials and elected office holders who are free to vote for either candidate at the party's nominating convention in August.
