레바논 정부 지지자들과 시아파 무장단체 헤즈볼라 사이의 평화 중재를 위해 아랍연맹 대표단이 수도 베이루트에 도착할 예정인 가운데 북부지방에서 교전이 또다시 벌어졌습니다.
아랍연맹의 외무장관들은 11일 레바논의 교전 종식을 촉구하는 성명을 발표했습니다.
아랍연맹 대표단은 앞으로 몇일 내에 레바논에 도착할 예정이나, 베이루트 공항은 헤즈볼라가 설치한 장애물로 인해 폐쇄된 상황입니다.
지난주 7일 레바논 정부 지지자들과 헤즈볼라 사이에 교전이 시작된 이래 61명이 사망하고 200명이 부상당했습니다. 12일에는 북부 항구도시 트리폴리에서 두번째로 심각한 교전이 일어났다고 보안 당국이 밝혔습니다.
11일, 베이루트 인근 산악지대에서 헤즈볼라와 정부를 지지하는 드루즈 민병대 사이에 교전이 일어나 최소 13명이 사망했습니다.
데나 페리노 백악관 대변인은 “부시 대통령은 교전에 휩쓸린 레바논 민간인들의 안전을 우려하며, 레바논인들은 그들이 선거로 확립한 민주주의를 향유할 권리가 있다고 믿는다”고 말했습니다.
페리노 대변인은 부시 대통령이 이번주 중동 순방기간 중 레바논 문제도 논의할 것이라고 말했습니다.

Fighting broke out in northern Lebanon again today (Monday) as politicians wait for an Arab League delegation to arrive to try to broker a settlement between supporters of the government and the Hezbollah-led opposition.
Arab League foreign ministers issued a statement Sunday urging a ceasefire between warring Lebanese factions.
The delegation is expected to arrive in Lebanon in the coming days. Beirut airport remains closed due to barricades set up by Hezbollah.
At least 61 people have been killed and about 200 wounded since fighting broke out last Wednesday between supporters of the Western-backed government and the Hezbollah-led opposition. Today (Monday) Lebanese security officials say heavy fighting erupted for a second time in the northern port city of Tripoli.
Sunday, at least 13 people died in the mountains near Beirut in battles between supporters of a pro-government Druze leader (Walid Jumblatt) and Hezbollah fighters allied with a rival Druze faction.
A White House spokeswoman (Dana Perino) said today that U.S. President George Bush is concerned about the safety of Lebanese civilians caught up in the conflict and believes the Lebanese deserve the democracy they voted for.
She said the president is expected to discuss the Lebanon issue during his Mideast trip this week.
