짐바브웨 야당 민주변화운동 MDC의 모건 츠방기라이 대표가 로버트 무가베 현 대통령과의 대통령 선거 결선 투표에 참여하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
츠방기라이 대표는 10일 남아프리카 공화국 프레토리아에서 이같이 밝히며 몇가지 조건을 내세웠습니다. 대표는 짐바브웨에서의 모든 종류의 폭력의 근절과, ‘남아프리카개발공동체(SADC)’ 평화유지군의 주둔, 국제사회와 언론매체의 감시를 요구했습니다.
츠방기라이 대표는 곧 짐바브웨로 귀환할 것임을 밝히며, 결선이 5월 24일까지는 치뤄져야 한다고 말했습니다.
츠방기라이 대표는 아직도 짐바브웨의 3월 29일 대선에서 승리를 했다고 주장하고 있습니다. 선거관리위원회는 츠방기라이 대표가 가장 많은 수의 득표를 했지만, 과반수를 넘지는 못했다고 말했습니다.
짐바브웨의 법에 따르면, 결선은 예비 결과 발표 21일 이내에 열려야 합니다.

Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai says he will take part in a presidential run-off against the incumbent, Robert Mugabe.
Tsvangirai made the announcement in Pretoria, South Africa today (Saturday) but also laid out several conditions. He called for the cessation of all violence, the presence of South African Development Community peacekeepers and access for international observers and media.
The leader of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change said he will return home soon and that the runoff should take place no later than May 24th.
Tsvangirai maintains he won an outright victory in the March 29th presidential election. The electoral commission says while he won the most votes, he fell short of a majority.
Under Zimbabwean electoral law a runoff should be held within 21 days of when the initial results were announced (May 2nd).
