중국 산악등반대는 5월 초 성화를 에베레스트 정상으로 가져갈 계획입니다. 다른 모든 등산객들은 5월1일부터 10일까지 해발 6천5백미터에 위치한 제2 베이스 캠프 이상 올라가는 것이 금지돼 있습니다.
한편, 호주 당국자들은 오는 24일 예정인 올림픽 성화봉송을 최대 1만 명의 친 티베트 시위대와 친 중국 시위대로부터 보호하기 위해 수도 캔버라에 대규모 장애물을 설치할 예정입니다.
전 세계 일주에 나선 베이징 올림픽 성화는 현재 13번째 방문국인 말레이시아에 머물고 있습니다.

Nepal says police and soldiers deployed to guard the Olympic torch's ascent of Mt Everest have orders to shoot any anti-Chinese protesters who turn violent.
Chinese climbers plan to take the torch to summit in the first few days of May. All other climbers have been banned from going above base camp two (located six-thousand-500 meters above sea level) from May 1 to 10.
Meanwhile Australian officials are building huge barricades in the capital, Canberra, to protect the Olympic torch relay from as many as 10-thousand pro-Tibet and pro-China demonstrators. The torch relay is set for Thursday in Canberra.
The Olympic flame is in Malaysia on the 13th stop of its global relay to the Beijing Olympic games.
