한국 최초의 우주인 이소연 씨가 10여일 간의 우주임무를 마치고 무사히 귀환했습니다.
러시아 당국은 이소연 씨와 미국인 우주비행사 페기 윗슨 씨, 러시아 항공기관사 유리 말렌첸코 씨 등 세 명이 국제 우주정거장으로부터 무사히 돌아왔다고 밝혔습니다.
페기 윗슨 씨와 유리 말렌첸코 씨는 국제 우주정거장에 6개월 동안 체류한 뒤 이번에 귀환했습니다.
이들을 태운 소유즈 귀환캡슐은 19일 세 시간반 동안의 낙하비행 끝에 예상착륙 지점에서 4백20 킬로미터 떨어진 카자흐스탄 북부 초원지대에 안착했습니다.
그러나 이들의 건강은 모두 양호한 것으로 알려졌습니다.
이소연 씨는 당초 예비 우주인으로 선발됐었습니다.
그러나 러시아 당국이 원래 탑승 우주인으로 선발됐던 고산 씨가 보안규정을 위반했다며 거부함에 따라, 한국인 최초로 우주를 여행하는 영광은 이소연 씨에게 돌아갔습니다.
Russian officials say a Soyuz space capsule carrying South Korea's first astronaut and two other crew has returned safely from the International Space Station.
The capsule landed in northern Kazakhstan today (Saturday), 420 kilometers off target after a three and a half hour descent.
South Korean nano-technology engineer Yi So-yeon spent eleven days in space. Returning with her was US astronaut Peggy Whitson and Russian flight engineer Yuri Malenchenko. They had been away six months.
Yi was not originally expected to undertake the mission. She had been named as a back up to fellow countryman Ko San. But authorities demoted Ko after Russia said he violated security regulations.
