짐바브웨의 주요 야당인 민주변화당측은 집권당 무장요원들이 이른바 “대규모 폭력사태”의 일환으로 야당인 민주변화당 지지자들을 공격하고 있다고 말했습니다. 짐바브웨 선거 관리위원회는 지난 달 3월 29일 치러진 대통령 선거 결과를 발표하지 않고 있습니다.
짐바브웨 대법원은 8일 선관위가 대선 결과를 공표하도록 명령해달라는 야당측의 청원을 긴급 심리할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
독자적인 선거 감시요원들은 민주변화당의 후보인 모건 창기라이 의장이 결선 투표를 피하기 위해 필요한 과반수 득표율을 획득하지 못했다고 말하고 있음에도 불구하고 민주변화당측은 창기라이 의장이 무가베 대통령을 누르고 승리했다고 주장하고 있습니다.

Opponents of Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe say his supporters have launched a campaign of violence as the country continues to wait for delayed presidential election results.
Zimbabwe's Commercial Farmers Union said today that hardline supporters of Mr. Mugabe have chased about 60 farmers, most of them white, off their land in recent days.
The main opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change, says ruling party militants are being armed and attacking MDC supporters in what it calls "massive violence."
Zimbabwe's electoral commission has yet to put out any results from the March 29th presidential vote. Today, the country's High Court said it would urgently consider an MDC petition for the results to be released.
The MDC says its candidate, Morgan Tsvangirai, defeated Mr. Mugabe, although independent monitors say Mr. Tsvangirai fell short of the majority needed to avoid a runoff.
