반기문 유엔 사무총장은 7일 성명을 통해, 대선 결과를 신속하고 투명하게 공개하라고 짐바브웨 선거위원회에 촉구했습니다.
미 국무부의 션 맥코맥 대변인은 선거결과의 공개가 이미 많이 늦었다면서, 결과가 발표되기도 전에 재검표를 요구하는 짐바브웨 집권당의 논리에 의문을 제기했습니다.
이보다 앞서, 짐바브웨 대법원은 선거 결과의 즉각적인 공개를 요구하는 야당의 소송에 대한 판결을 8일 이후에 내릴 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
야당인 민주변화운동은 모간 창기라이 후보가 로버트 무가베 대통령을 물리쳤다고 주장하고 있습니다. 그러나, 독자적인 선거감시단체들은 창기라이 후보가 결선투표를 피하기 위해 필요한 과반수 이상 득표에는 약간 미치지 못했다고 말하고 있습니다.

The United Nations and United States have renewed pressure on Zimbabwean officials to release results of Zimbabwe's presidential election, held nine days ago.
In a statement today, a spokesman for U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged Zimbabwe's electoral commission to put out the presidential results quickly "and with transparency."
In Washington, a State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said the results are overdue and also questioned the logic of Zimbabwe's ruling party asking for a recount before any results are released.
Earlier, Zimbabwe's High Court said it will wait until Tuesday to rule on the opposition's petition to have the results put out immediately.
The opposition Movement for Democratic Change says its candidate Morgan Tsvangirai defeated President Robert Mugabe, although independent monitors say he fell short of the majority needed to avoid a runoff.
