아프리카와 세계 빈곤국 지원문제를 논의하기 위한 , 서방선진 7개국과 러시아의 ‘G-8 개발 장관회의’가 5일 일본 도쿄에서 개막됐습니다.
이틀간의 일정으로 진행되는 이번 회의는 앞서 4일, 경제 협력 개발 기구(OECD)가 대부분의 원조국들은 그들이 약속한 지원 결의를 지키기 위해 더욱 노력해야 한다고 지적한지 하룻만에 열린 것입니다. 고무라 마사히코 일본 외상은 이날 개막식 연설에서 G-8 회원국 장관들에게 일본도 2007년의 경우 전년도에 비해 외국에 대한 지원 규모가 30퍼센트 가량 감소했다고 밝히고, 이같은 감소 추세를 바꾸도록 할 계획이라고 말했습니다.
이번 G-8개발 장관회의는 오는 7월에 있을 G-8 정상회담을 앞두고 열린 것입니다. G-8 회원국은 영국과,이탈리아 캐나다, 미국, 프랑스 독일 일본,그리고 러시아로 이뤄져 있습니다.
이번회의에는 G-8뿐만 아니라 한국, 브라질, 중국, 인도, 인도네시아, 말레이시아, 멕시코, 남아프리카공화국 정부 관계자들도 참석하고 있습니다.
Development ministers from industrial and fast-growing nations opened talks in Tokyo today (Saturday) on ways to maintain foreign aid to Africa and impoverished countries elsewhere.
The two-day meeting kicked off a day after the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said Friday that most donors need to increase efforts to meet their stated aid commitments.
In opening remarks to the Group of Eight development ministers, Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura said he was determined to reverse Japan's downward trend of giving, saying foreign aid decreased about 30 percent in 2007 from the year before.
The meeting is being held ahead of the G-8 summit in July. The organization groups Britain, Italy, Canada, the United States, France Russia, Germany and Japan.
