북대서양조약기구 나토 지도자들은 루마니아 부쿠레슈티에서 끝난 나토정상회의에서, 아프가니스탄에 주둔중인 연합군을 위해 1천 8백 명 이상의 병력을 증파하기로 다짐했습니다.
프랑스는 7백 명을 추가로 파파할 것이라고 약속했습니다. 나토 회원국이 되기를 희망하는 그루지아는 5백 명을 제의했고, 폴란드는 4백 명의 병력과 헬기 8대를 보낼 계획입니다. 이탈리아와 루마니아, 그리스도 아프간 군 훈련 요원들을 추가로 보내기로 동의했습니다.
이밖에 체코와 헝가리, 그리고 나토 회원국이 아닌 아제르바이잔과 뉴질랜드도 소규모의 추가 파병을 제의했습니다.
미국의 로버트 게이츠 국방장관은 4일, 부시 대통령은 미국이 내년에 아프간에 상당한 규모의 병력을 증파할 계획이라고 말했습니다.

Chinese state media say new riots have broken out in a volatile Tibetan region of southwestern China, leaving at least one official seriously injured.
The official Xinhua news agency reports today police were forced to fire warning shots and put down the violence. The riot occurred Thursday night outside government offices in Garze, an area high in the mountains of Sichuan province along the Tibetan border.
China has been cracking down hard on any attempts to spread unrest, and has promised swift punishment for those allegedly involved in last month's anti-government protests in the Tibetan capital, Lhasa.
China's vice governor in Tibet has called on judges in the remote region to swiftly try and judge Tibetans accused of involvement.
