Turkey's military says seven Kurdish rebels have been killed in clashes with government soldiers near Turkey's border with Iraq.
The military said today (Wednesday) the rebels -- from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK -- were killed in Sirnak province, bringing this week's rebel death toll to 16.
The PKK has not commented on the reported deaths.
Turkey accuses PKK militants of using suspected strongholds in northern Iraq to launch attacks. Turkey has launched several air strikes and at least one ground incursion into Iraq against the rebels.
The PKK has been fighting for Kurdish autonomy in Turkey's mainly Kurdish southeast for nearly 25 years. The violence has killed more than 30-thousand people.
Turkey, the United States and other nations have designated the PKK a terrorist group.
