그리스에서 일단의 소규모 시위자들이 성화 인계를 저지하려 했으나 성공을 거두지 못한 채 베이징 올림픽 성화는 30일 마침내 중국 정부에 인계됐습니다.
목격자들은 30일 아테네에서 티베트기를 흔들면서 반 중국 구호를 외치던 시위자들이 올림픽 성화를 인계하려던 봉송주자를 저지하기 위해 경찰 저지선을 뚫으려 하는 가운데 연행됐다고 전했습니다.
중국은 티베트내 시위자들에 대한 단속을 둘러싸고 유엔과 서방 정부들로 부터 압력을 받고 있습니다. 중국은 이달 초 시위가 시작된 이후 20명의 사망자가 발생한 것은 시위자들 탓이라고 비난하고 있습니다.
하지만 티베트 운동가들은 중국 경찰에 의해 티베트인 140명 정도가 목숨을 잃었다고 주장하고 있습니다.

Greece has handed the Olympic torch to organizers of the Beijing Summer Games, after a small group of protesters tried unsuccessfully to block the handover ceremony.
WItnesses say the protesters, waving Tibetan flags and chanting anti-Chinese slogans, were arrested in Athens today (Sunday) while trying to break through police lines to stop a runner carrying the torch from reaching the handover site.
Hundreds of Greek police officers were on alert, after sporadic protests last week along the torch relay route from ancient Olympia.
China has come under pressure from the United Nations and Western governments over its crackdown on protests in Tibet. China blames demonstrators for 20 deaths since protests began earlier this month.
Tibetan activists say as many as 140 Tibetans have been killed by Chinese police.
