인도 자동차 제조업체인 타타사는 미국 자동차메이커 포드사로부터 고급 자동차 상표인 ‘재규어’와 ‘랜드로버’를 23억달러에 사들이기로 합의했습니다.
이같은 판매가격은 앞서 포드사가 영국에 본부를 둔 2개 자동차 상표에 지불했던 가격의 절반미만 수준입니다. 포드사는 미국 경제 침체로 고급자동차에 대한 수요가 감소하자 이 상표들을 매각하기로 결정했습니다.
타타자동차회사는 26일, ‘재규어’와 ‘랜드로버’ 상표를 그대로 사용할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
영국의 노조 관계자는, 타타사가 재규어와 랜드로버사의 종업원들을 전원 인수하고, 사업을 확대해 나가기로 약속했다고 밝혔습니다.
타타자동차는 인도의 내수용 트럭과 자동차들을 주로 생산해 왔습니다.

Indian carmaker Tata Motors has agreed to buy luxury car brands Jaguar and Land Rover from U.S. automaker Ford Motor Company for two-point-three billion dollars.
The sale price is less than half of what Ford Motor paid for the two British-based car brands. Ford decided to sell them after the U.S. economic downturn reduced demand for luxury vehicles.
Tata Motors said today (Wednesday) it will keep the identities of Jaguar and Land Rover intact. A British trade union official (Roger Madison) says Tata also has promised to retain all employees of the two carmakers and grow their businesses.
Tata Motors specializes in making trucks and cars for India's domestic market. It is the latest Indian company to seek expansion overseas after posting record profits at home in recent years.
