이스라엘의 에후드 바락 국방장관이 요르단강 서안의 예닌에 해외에서 훈련받은 팔레스타인 경찰관을 6백명까지 배치하도록 허가하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
예닌은 이스라엘군과 팔레스타인 무장단체간의 충돌이 잦은 곳입니다.
바락 장관의 이번 발표는 요르단강 서안의 질서를 회복하기 위한 조치의 일환으로 이뤄졌습니다.
앞서 어제 바락 장관은 요르단강 서안에 내려진 도로 봉쇄 조치를 해제하고 팔레스타인 경제인들과 관리들이 쉽게 요르단강 서안 지역을 드나들 수 있도록 하는 조치들을 고려하고 있다고 말했습니다.
Israel's defense minister says he will allow up to 600 foreign-trained Palestinian police to take positions in the West Bank town of Jenin, site of frequent clashes between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian militants.
Ehud Barak today (Tuesday) announced the move, which is part of a series of measures to try to restore order to the West Bank. The Palestinian officers have been training in Jordan.
Mr. Barak said Monday Israel is considering gestures to ease restrictions on Palestinians in the West Bank. The measures would include lifting temporary roadblocks and creating easier
access for Palestinian business people and government officials.
Barak said the gestures are meant to help improve the atmosphere in Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
In other news, the European Commission has released about 460-million dollars in aid for public services and other necessities in the Palestinian territories.
