팔레스타인의 상쟁 세력인 파타와 하마스는 하마스 과격분자들이 9달 전 가자지구를 장악한 이후 처음으로 직접 회담을 갖기로 합의했습니다.
파타 운동과 하마스 대표들은 예멘 수도 사나에서 이같은 회담을 갖는다는 내용의 공동성명에 서명했습니다. 양측 협상대표들은 예멘 중재자들과 팔레스타인 화합 계획을 논의하기 위해 별도의 회담을 가져왔습니다.
공동성명에서 파타운동과 하마스 대표들은 팔레스타인을 가자지구에서 최근의 사태가 발생하기 이전의 상황으로 돌려놓을 직접 회담을 갖기 위한 골격안으로 예멘의 계획을 수용한다고 밝혔습니다.
예멘의 알리 압둘라 살레 대통령도 이날 파타와 하마스의 공동 성명 서명식에 참석했습니다. 살레 대통령은 오는 4월 양측이 직접 회담에 들어가도록 압력을 가하고 있으나 회담 일정은 발표되지 않았습니다.

Rival Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas have agreed to hold their first direct talks since Hamas militants seized control of the Gaza Strip nine months ago.
Fatah and Hamas representatives signed a declaration today (Sunday) in the Yemeni capital, San'a, agreeing to the talks. The two sides had been meeting separately with Yemeni mediators to discuss a plan for Palestinian reconciliation.
In a joint statement, Fatah and Hamas said they accept the Yemeni initiative as a framework for talks aimed at returning the Palestinian situation to what it was before recent events in Gaza.
The statement referred to the Hamas seizure of Gaza in June 2007, in fighting with Fatah forces loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Mr. Abbas denounced the takeover as a coup and had insisted Hamas give up control of Gaza before talks can resume.
