중국 베이징 올림픽 건설현장의 일용직 노동자들이 위험한 작업환경에서 봉급도 제대로 받지 못하며 일하고 있다고 미국 뉴역에 본부를 둔 인권단체 휴먼라이츠워치가 지적했습니다.
휴먼라이츠워치는 오늘 발표한 보고서에서 중국 노동자들이 최장 1년 동안 봉급을 받지 못한 채 일하고 있으며, 봉급을 받아도 미리 약속한 만큼 받지 못하고 있다고 말했습니다.
휴먼라이츠워치의 소피 리차드슨 아시아국장은 중국 정부가 노동자들을 보호하겠다는 약속을 실천하지 않고 있다고 지적했습니다.
휴먼라이츠워치는 약 1백만 명으로 추산되는 베이징 시내 건설 노동자들의 90%가 일용직 노동자라며, 국제올림픽위원회가 이들의 공정한 대우를 위해 조치를 취할 것을 촉구했습니다.

Human Rights Watch says migrant construction workers at the Beijing Olympics are working under dangerous conditions and are denied pay.
The organization's advocacy director for Asia, Sophie Richardson, says the Chinese government is, in her words, "all talk and no action" when it comes to fulfilling its commitments to protect workers.
The New York-based rights organization released a report Wednesday saying employers routinely force migrant workers to wait up to a year to be paid. When they are paid, Human Rights Watch says they are often given less than agreed and at a rate below the minimum wage.
The group says 90 percent of the estimated one million construction workers in the Chinese capital are migrants.
The report also migrants are prevented from accessing social services.
Human Rights Watch urged the International Olympic Committee to ensure that workers involved in the Olympic construction boom are treated fairly.
