중국의 원자바오 총리가 중국의 치솟는 물가를 잡고 국민들의 생활수준을 높이기 위한 조치를 취하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
원 총리는 5일 전국인민대표대회 개막식에서 경제 개발이 여전히 중국의 최우선 과제라고 말했습니다.
두 자리 수 경제성장을 지속해온 중국은 세계 4위의 경제대국으로 올라섰지만, 지난해 11년 만에 가장 높은 물가상승률을 기록했습니다.
원 총리는 식품과 생활필수품의 가격상승으로 나타나고 있는 높은 물가상승률을 억제하기 위해 강력한 조치를 취하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
원 총리는 올해 중국의 경제성장률이 8 퍼센트에 이를 것이며 물가상승률을 5 퍼센트 아래로 묶겠다고 말했습니다.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has promised to tackle the country's high inflation rate and use other measures to improve the living standards of the general public.
Speaking at the opening session of China's legislature today (Wednesday), Mr. Wen said economic development would remain the Chinese government's top priority.
China's double-digit economic growth has transformed the country into the world's fourth largest economy, but it also brought inflation that hit an 11-year high in 2007.
Mr. Wen promised tough measures to tame the inflation rate, which has been driving up the cost of food and basic essentials.
He also said the government wants to improve the lives of ordinary people, with reforms in health care, education and of the country's pension systems.
