3일 네팔에서 추락한 유엔 헬기의 사고 현장에서 12구의 사체가 발견됐다고 네팔 관리들이 밝혔습니다.
네팔 경찰은 4일 라메치하프 동부 산악지대에서 발견된 사체들이 형체를 알아볼 수 없을 정도로 불에 탔다고 전했습니다.
네팔 주재 유엔 대표부측은 사고 헬기에 7명의 유엔 직원과 3명의 승무원이 타고 있었다고 밝혔습니다. 한국 정부는 이 가운데 한국 군 장교 한 명이 탑승하고 있었다고 밝혔습니다. 한국 정부는 헬기 추락사고의 경위조사를 지원하기 위해 네팔 현지로 조사반을 급파했습니다.
목격자들은 사고 헬기가 추락직전에 불길에 휩싸였으며, 추락당시 폭우와 안개를 동반한 악천후 속에서 운행 중이었다고 전했습니다.
Nepalese officials say they have found 12 bodies in the wreckage of a U.N. helicopter that crashed Monday.
Police said today (Tuesday) the bodies found in the hilly eastern district of Ramechhap were burned beyond recognition.
A spokesman for the U.N. mission in Nepal said Monday there were seven U.N. employees and three crew members aboard the aircraft. Officials have not commented on the discrepancy in the number of people aboard the helicopter.
South Korea says one of the victims was a South Korean military officer. Seoul is sending a fact-finding mission to Nepal to help investigate the crash.
Witnesses said hey saw the helicopter on fire before the crash. The weather was bad at the time, with heavy rain and fog. The cause of the crash is still unknown.
