라이스 장관의 이번 중동 순방계획은 지난 2일 마무드 압바스 팔레스타인 자치수반이 이스라엘과의 평화협상을 중단한다는 발표가 나오기 전에 결정됐습니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is heading to Egypt today (Monday) as part of a Middle East trip where she will meet with Israeli and Palestinian leaders. She will try to defuse the latest conflict and get negotiations for a Palestinian state back on track.
In Egypt, Rice is to meet with Egyptian officials on bilateral issues and Israeli military actions in the Gaza Strip. She holds talks in Israel and the Palestinian territories Tuesday and Wednesday, before traveling to Brussels for a meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
Rice's trip was arranged before the announcement Sunday by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that he was suspending peace talks with Israel.
