이라크에서 2월 민간인 사망자수가 전달에 비해 30% 증가했다고 이라크 정부가 밝혔습니다.
이라크 내무부가 1일 발표한 자료에 따르면 2월중 민간인 사망자 수는 최소한 630명으로 1월의 450명에 비해서 크게 증가했습니다.
미국은 이라크 내 종파간 폭력사태를 줄이기위해 지난해 6월 3만명의 추가 병력을 파견했습니다. 이후 지난 1월에 민간인 사망자가 가장 낮은 수준까지 떨어졌었습니다.
한편 이라크 주둔 미군 당국은 1일 바그다드에서 이란의 지원을 받은 무장세력으로 보이는 용의자 3명을 체포했다고 밝혔습니다. 이 중에는 이란에서 훈련을 받았고, 이라크 내 연합군에 대한 공격에도 연루된 저격술 교관이 포함된 것으로 알려졌습니다.

Figures released today (Saturday) by Iraq's ministries of interior, defense and health shows at least 630 civilians died in February, compared with about 450 in January.
The civilian death toll in January was the lowest since last June, when the United States sent 30-thousand more troops to Iraq to quell a wave of sectarian violence.
In another development, U.S. military officials say coalition forces captured an alleged "special groups" facilitator and three other suspected criminals in Baghdad today. The man is believed to be an Iranian-trained sniper instructor involved in attacks on Iraqi and coalition soldiers.
