부시 대통령은 28일 백악관에서 가진 기자회견에서 라울 카스트로와의 회담 가능성에 관한 질문에 이같이 밝히고, 라울 카스트로와의 회담은 그들의 정치적 신념을 위해 수많은 사람들을 투옥하고 있는 폭군을 지지하는 것이 될 것이라고 말했습니다.
부시 대통령은 라울 카스트로가 그들의 정치적 신념 때문에 쿠바를 황폐화시키고 수많은 사람들을 투옥한 형 피델 카스트로의 연장에 불과할 뿐이라고 지적했습니다.
쿠바 의회는 이번 주 초에 라울 카스트로를 차기 국가평의회 의장으로 선출했습니다.

President Bush has rejected the idea of meeting with Cuban President Raul Castro, saying such talks would be embracing a "tyrant."
Responding to a question at a White House news conference today (Thursday), Mr. Bush told reporters that speaking with Raul Castro would endorse someone who imprisons people for their political beliefs. He said it would send the wrong message.
He described Raul Castro as "nothing more than an extension" of what Fidel Castro did, which, as Mr. Bush put it, was to ruin an island and imprison people because of their beliefs.
Cuba's National Assembly named Raul Castro as the communist island's president earlier this week.
The 76-year-old Raul Castro had been running the country on a provisional basis since his brother became ill in July 2006. Fidel Castro held power for 49 years.
