밀리반드 장관은 영국은 베이징 올림픽 거부운동을 지지하지 않지만, 이번 주 중국 방문 기간 동안 인권과 다르푸르 사태에 관해 중국 측과 논의하기를 기대한다고 밝혔습니다.
British Foreign Secretary David Miliband says concern about human rights in China should not just be an issue for the 2008 Olympics.
Speaking with reporters (today) (Monday) in Hong Kong, Miliband says the rule of law and individual rights are issues that need to be on the agenda every year because they are important universal values.
As the 2008 Olympics nears, China has come under increasing pressure from activists and rights groups to improve its human rights record. China is also being pressured to use its economic influence with Sudan to help resolve the situation in the war-torn region of Darfur.
Miliband says Britain does not support a boycott of the Olympics, but he is expected to discuss both human rights and the Darfur crisis when he meets with Chinese officials this week during his visit to China.
Miliband says he believes the Olympics will give China a chance to show how it has changed, and help improve dialogue with the international community over common problems the world faces.
