미국은 민주화 지도자인 아웅산 수치 여사의 선거 출마를 배제한 버마 군사정부의 새 헌법안을 비난했습니다.
백악관의 고든 존드로 국가안보 대변인은 20일, 버마 군사정부가 출발점부터 다시 헌법안을 시작해야 할 것이라고 말했습니다.
존드로 대변인은 조지 부시 대통령을 수행해 가나 방문중에 이같이 밝혔습니다.
앞서 버마 관계자들은 아웅산 수치 여사가 외국인 남편과 결혼했기 때문에 규정에 따라 앞으로 의회선거에 출마할 수 없다고 밝혔습니다.
동남아세아국가연합, 아세안도 20일, 앞으로 의회선거에서 아웅산 수치 여사의 출마를 배제한 버마의 결정에 우려를 표시했습니다.

The United States has criticized a constitution proposal by Burma's military government, in part because it would ban pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi from seeking office.
White House national security spokesman Gordon Johndroe said the Burma military government should start from "scratch" (the beginning) to draft a constitution.
Johndroe spoke in Ghana, where he is traveling with President George W. Bush.
Burma officials said earlier that Aung San Suu Kyi would not be allowed to run under the proposed charter because she was married to a foreigner.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations also voiced its concern Wednesday about Burma's decision to bar Aung San Suu Kyi from participating in future elections.
