Police in Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province say at least 35 people died in a bomb blast targeting a Canadian military convoy today (Monday), one day after more than 100 people died in a suicide attack in the same region.
Officials say at least 27 people were wounded in today's attack, including at least three Canadian soldiers. The attack took place in the town of Spin Boldak, near the border with Pakistan.
Earlier, Kandahar provincial governor Assadullah Kahlid said the death toll from Sunday's attack at a dogfight has risen past 100, from earlier estimates of 80. Kahlid blamed the Taliban for the attack, but the Taliban movement has rejected that claim.
Governor Khalid said scores of people were wounded when the bomber set off his explosives amid a crowd of mostly men and boys watching a dogfighting competition.
