레바논 내 무장단체 헤즈볼라는 12일 오후 시리아에서 발생한 자동차 폭발 사건으로 고위 지도자 1명이 사망했다고 밝혔습니다.
헤즈볼라는 13일 이마드 무그니야의 사망 소식을 텔레비전 방송을 통해 보도하고, 이스라엘이 이번 공격을 수행했다고 비난했습니다. 하지만 이스라엘 측은 이에 대해 공식 답변을 하지 않고 있습니다.
이스라엘은 무그니야를 1992년 아르헨티나 주재 이스라엘 대사관 폭탄테러의 주모자로 지목해 왔습니다. 당시 폭탄 테러로 29명이 사망했고, 이어 1994년 부에노스 아이레스의 유대인 센터에서 폭탄이 폭발해 수십명이 사망했습니다.
무그니야는 또 미 국무부가 지정한 핵심 테러 용의자 수배 명단에도 올라있었습니다. 그는 1985년 한 국제 여객기 공중납치 사건에 간여한 혐의로 수배 대상이 돼 왔습니다.

The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah says one of its top leaders was killed in a car bomb attack late Tuesday in Syria.
The Shi'ite group announced the death of Imad Mugniyah on its television channel today (Wednesday) and accused Israel of carrying out the attack. Israeli officials declined to comment.
Israel had accused Mugniyah of masterminding the 1992 bombing of an Israeli embassy in Argentina, which killed 29 people, and the blast at a Buenos Aires Jewish center in 1994 that killed dozens.
Mugniyah also was on the U.S. State Department's list of the most wanted terrorism suspects. He was wanted for his suspected role in the 1985 hijacking of an international flight, which resulted in the murder of a U.S. Navy diver.
