사막 총리는 반 총장이 버마 지도자들과의 협상 장소로 태국을 활용할 수 있을 것이라고 덧붙였습니다.
태국은 버마가 주요 교역국임에도 불구하고, 국경을 철저하게 통제하고 있습니다. 과거 태국 정부는 버마의 군사정권에 대해 강경한 입장을 취하지 않는다는 비난을 받아왔습니다.

Thailand's new prime minister, Samak Sundarawej, is calling on the United Nations to step up its contacts with Burma's leaders and promote political reform in the military-ruled country.
In his first press conference with foreign journalists today (Friday), Mr. Samak said his administration would encourage negotiations for democratic change in Burma. He also urged U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to visit the southeast Asian country soon.
Mr. Samak added that the U.N. chief could use Thailand as a base for negotiations with Burmese leaders.
Thailand shares its border with Burma and is one of the tightly controlled nation's major trading partners. Burma is a key supplier of natural gas to Thailand, and Bangkok has been previously criticized for not taking a harder stance on the country's military leadership.
