미국 연방수사국 FBI가 캄보디아 프놈펜에 사무소를 개설한 가운데, 현지를 방문한 로버트 뮬러 FBI 국장이 캄보디아 정부의 협력에 감사를 표했습니다
뮬러 국장은 31일 열린 프놈펜 사무소 개소식에서 캄보디아는 미국이 극단주의자와 맞서는 데 모범적인 협력 사례가 되고 있다고 말했습니다.
뮬러 국장은 이어 캄보디아는 테러리스트들이 거점으로 활용할 수 있기 때문에, 미국에게 매우 중요하다고 말했습니다.
앞서 인도네시아의 한 주요 테러리스트도 2002년 캄보디아에 머물면서 테러활동을 준비한 것으로 알려진 바 있습니다.
FBI는 전세계에 60여개의 지역 사무소를 운영하고 있으며, 프놈펜 사무소는 캄보디아와 베트남 등지에서의 FBI 활동을 지원하게 됩니다.

Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Robert Mueller has praised Cambodia for its efforts to help the United States to fight terrorism in the region.
Speaking at the opening of the FBI's first regional office in Phnom Penh today (Thursday), Mueller called Cambodia an exemplary partner in helping Washington fight extremists.
Mueller said Cambodia is important to the United States because the country could be used by terrorists as a place of transit or as a spot for terrorism.
Hambali, an Indonesian said to be a key leader of the regional Islamist extremist group Jemaah Islamiyah, allegedly spent several months in Cambodia in 2002, and tried to use it as a base to launch terrorist attacks.
He was captured one year later in neighboring Thailand.
The U.S. Legal Attach頯ffice - one of 60 the FBI has around the world - will serve Cambodia as well as its neighbor Vietnam.
