세계무역기구 WTO 회원국들은 올해 국제무역협정에 도달하기 위해 오는 4월에 새로운 무역 회담을 시작할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
미국과 유럽연합, 브라질, 인도, 그리고 다른 나라 무역장관들은 26일 스위스 다보스에서 열린 세계경제포럼 연차 총회 중에 그같은 결정에 대해 논의했습니다.
미국 무역대표부의 수잔 슈워브 대표는 올해 안에 협정이 완료될 수 있다고 말하며, 부시 미국 대통령은 내년 초에 백악관을 떠나기에 앞서 올해 안에 무역협정이 체결될 수 있도록 최선을 다하고 있다고 덧붙였습니다.
이른바 도하라운드로 불리는 국제무역회담은 2001년 시작됐지만, 농업보조금과 공산품에 대한 관세를 둘러싼 오랜 이견으로 교착상태를 벗어나지 못하고 있습니다.

World Trade Organization members say they will begin another round of trade talks in April in an effort to reach a global trade agreement this year.
Trade ministers from the United States, European Union, Brazil, India and other countries discussed their decision Saturday during a meeting at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab says a deal can be concluded this year. She adds that President Bush has very clearly committed the United States to reach a trade agreement during 2008, before he leaves office.
Longstanding disagreements over agricultural subsidies and import tariffs on industrial goods have dogged (hampered) the trade talks since the so-called "Doha round" began in 2001.
If there is no agreement this year, Schwab says, chances for progress likely will "drift away" in 2009.
