태국 왕세자는 21일 의회 개원 선언을 하면서 정치인들이 태국의 안정과 국가적 단결을 이룰 것을 촉구했습니다.
한편 새 총리는 25일 선출될 예정이며, 이번 총선에서 승리한 '국민의 당' 사막 순다라벳 총수가 유력합니다.
태국 의회의 최우선 의제는 경제 재건입니다. 태국 경제는 지난 쿠데타 이후 내리막 길을 걸어왔습니다. '국민의 당'은 지난 총선에서 2006년부터 시작된 자본 통제를 철폐하겠다는 공약을 내세웠었습니다.
탁신 전 총리는 현재 망명 중이며 군부가 임명한 임시정부로부터 정치 활동도 금지됐습니다. 하지만 탁신을 지지하는 국민의 당은 지난 총선에서 승리를 거뒀습니다.

Thailand's crown prince has opened the country's first elected parliament since a coup 16 months ago, with allies of deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra back in power.
The prince (Vajiralongkorn) urged lawmakers today (Monday) to restore stability and national unity to Thailand.
Selection of a new prime minister is scheduled for Friday. The post is expected to go to People Power Party leader Samak Sundaravej.
One of the first items on the new government's agenda is restarting the Thai economy, which slumped following the coup. The PPP's campaign promises included removing capital controls that were imposed in late 2006.
Mr. Thaksin is in exile. His opponents in the military-appointed interim government ordered his Thai Rak Thai Party disbanded and he was banned from politics.
However, his allies regrouped under the PPP and scored a victory in elections last month.
