Doctors for the 86-year-old former dictator say he is suffering from multiple organ failure.
Mr. Suharto has been in Jakarta's Pertamina Hospital since last Friday, suffering from heart and kidney problems. He has received blood transfusions and undergone kidney dialysis, and has now been placed on a ventilator.
Mr. Suharto ruled Indonesia with an iron fist for 32 years before he was forced to resign in 1998 after widespread demonstrations and riots demanding his ouster. He has been accused of looting the government of billions of dollars during his tenure. But his declining health has kept him from being prosecuted.
