Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will meet today (Tuesday) to work on the U.S.-backed Mideast peace process, on the eve of a visit from the U.S. president.
The talks between the two leaders are likely to focus on the thorny issues of Israeli construction plans in disputed territories, and Palestinian attacks on Israelis.
Mr. Abbas and Mr. Olmert have met regularly since they agreed in November to restart peace talks.
On Monday, Israeli and Palestinian officials met to work out a framework for negotiating key issues.
There was no public announcement after their discussions.
Mr. Abbas says he plans to ask President Bush to pressure Israel to stop building settlements, and to dismantle new outposts in East Jerusalem.
President Bush has called the construction of Israeli settlements on disputed land an impediment to the peace process.
