부시 대통령은 터키와 미국은 공통의 목표를 공유하고 있으며, 평화와 번영을 가져오고 쿠르드족노동당과 싸우기 위해 긴밀히 협력해 나갈 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
터키와 미국은 쿠르드족노동당을 테러단체로 규정하고 있지만, 미국 관계자들은 터키의 국경을 넘은 군사작전이 북부 이라크를 불안정하게 만들 수 있다고 우려하고 있습니다. 8일 오후에 부시 대통령은 이스라엘과 요르단 강 서안을 방문하기 위해 출발합니다.

U.S. President George Bush and Turkey's President Abdullah Gul have discussed the situation in Iraq and Ankara's efforts to join the European Union during a meeting today (Tuesday) at the White House.
Mr. Bush said the two countries both face the problem of terrorism, and the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, is a terrorist group that threatens Turkey, Iraq and the United States.
The president also expressed strong support for Turkey's bid to join the European Union, saying the country sets a "fantastic example" as a democratic nation that coexists with Islam.
President Gul said his country and the United States share a common vision and will work together to bring peace and prosperity and fight the PKK.
