그루지아 공화국 수도 트빌리시에서는 야당 지지자들이 미하일 샤카슈빌리 현 대통령이 재선에 성공한 것으로 나타난 5일 선거의 1차 결과에 항의하기 위한 시위를 벌였습니다.
6일 항의 시위가 끝난 직후 선거 관계관들은 샤카슈빌리 대통령이 두번째 결선을 피하기 위해 필요한 50% 이상의 득표를 하지 못했다는 새로운 개표 결과를 공개했습니다.
샤카슈빌리 대통령은4분의 1가량의 개표가 진행된 가운데 48%를 약간 넘게 득표했으며 야당 지도자인 레반 가체칠라드제 후보는 26%를 약간 넘은 득표로 그 뒤를 잇고 있습니다.
필요할 경우 2차 결선 투표는 오는 19일에 실시될 예정입니다.
야당 지도자들은 5일의 선거는 조작된 것이었다면서 선거 이전의 운동도 공평하지 못했다고 주장했습니다.

Thousands of Georgian opposition supporters have protested in Tbilisi against early results from Saturday's election showing Mikhail Saakashvili winning a second presidential term.
Shortly after the protest ended Sunday, updated official tallies showed Mr. Saakashvili slipping below the 50 percent threshold needed to avoid a second-round run-off.
Mr. Saakashvili had just over 48 percent of the vote, with a quarter of the ballots counted. Opposition leader Levan Gachechiladze was running second with just over 26 percent.
A second round of voting will take place January 19th, if needed.
Opposition leaders claim Saturday's vote was rigged, and say the pre-election campaign was unfair.
The top U.S. envoy in the region, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Bryza, urged Georgians to respect the verdict of Western poll monitors who say elections met most international standards.
