폴란드 국방부는 베나지르 부토 전 파키스탄 총리의 암살에 따라 400명의 추가병력을 아프가니스탄에 긴급 증파할 계획이라고 발표했습니다.
폴란드의 보그단 클리흐 국방장관은 28일, 이같은 조치는 파키스탄의 불안정이 인접한 아프가니스탄으로 확산되는 것을 막기 위한 것이라고 밝혔습니다. 클리흐 장관은 이 병력이 오는 4월말까지 아프간에 도착할 것이라고 말했습니다.
폴란드는 이미 나토 주도 국제안보지원군의 일원으로 아프가니스탄에 1,200명의 병력을 파견하고 있습니다. 폴란드 국방부는 4백명의 추가병력 외에 8대의 헬리콥터도 추가로 보낼 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
금년 초에 폴란드는 2008년말까지 이라크에서 900명의 폴란드 군을 철수할 것이라고 밝힌 바 있습니다.

Polish authorities have announced plans to dispatch 400 additional troops to Afghanistan following the death of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
Polish Defense Minister Bogdan Klich says the decision is in response to the growing threat that destabilization in Pakistan will spread to neighboring Afghanistan. He said the troops are expected to arrive about the end of April.
Poland already has 12-hundred troops serving with the NATO-led International Assistance Force in Afghanistan. It has pledged to send eight helicopters to that country for service with the force.
Earlier this year, Poland announced that it is pulling its 900 troops out of the U.S.-led mission in Iraq by late 2008.
