The White House says President Bush spoke to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan by telephone today (Monday) to discuss the fight against Kurdish rebels.
The White House says the two leaders talked about the importance of the United States, Turkey and Iraq cooperating to confront rebels of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK.
Turkish officials say Mr. Bush and Mr. Erdogan agreed to keep sharing intelligence on the PKK. Mr. Bush agreed to start intelligence-sharing at a meeting with Mr. Erdogan last month.
Turkey's military says it has killed hundreds of rebels in several air and artillery strikes on suspected PKK bases in northern Iraq this month. The rebels say only several fighters have been killed.
The U.S. and Turkey consider the PKK to be a terrorist group.
