만모한 싱 인도 총리는 19일 인도의 경제 고성장에도 불구하고 인도는 여전히 세계 경기침체에 취약하다고 밝혔습니다.
싱 총리는 이 날 인도 정책입안자들과 가진 회의에서 미국과 다른 경제 대국들이 서브프라임 경제 위기로 경제 성장 속도를 늦출 수 있다는 우려가 있다며 이같이 말했습니다.
싱 총리는 경기 침체의 위협은 인도의 수출과 자본 흐름에 영향을 준다고 말했습니다.
인도 지도자들은 그러나 정책 수정을 통해 인도 경제가 현재의 고성장 기조를 유지할 수 있다고 지적했습니다. 이들은 2012년까지 연 평균 10% 의 성장률을 달성하기 위한 5개년 계획을 고려하고 있습니다.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh says despite India's high economic growth, the country is still vulnerable to an international slowdown.
During a meeting today (Wednesday) with India's policy-makers, Mr. Singh said there are worries the U.S. and other major economies may slow down due to the subprime lending crisis. He said this threat of a recession could impact India's exports and capital flows.
The Indian leader noted that with the correct set of policies, India's economy could maintain its current momentum of high growth. Leaders are considering adopting a five-year economic plan that raises the annual growth rate to 10-percent by 2012.
Mr. Singh attributed the increased growth to high savings (record 34-percent of gross domestic product) and investment rates (35-percent).
He said the rates would likely go up due to India's young population profile.
India's has the world's fastest growing economy after China.
