Russia says a nuclear submarine in the Barents Sea has successfully test-fired an
intercontinental ballistic missile.
A Russian navy statement today (Monday) said the missile was launched from the
submarine "Tula" and that it struck its designated target on the Kamchatka peninsula in Russia's far east.
Russian news reports say the submarine is equipped with Sineva missiles. Analysts say the Sineva has has an effective range of more than eight-thousand kilometers.
Missile testing and deployments have become regular occurrences in Russia in recent years, as Moscow seeks to boost its military capabilities.
