한국 충남 태안 앞바다에서 유조선 충돌로 한국 사상 최악의 해양 오염사태가 발생한 가운데 유출된 원유가 인근 해안으로 확산되면서 해변과 양식어장을 오염시기고 있습니다.
한국 해경은 방제정을 비롯해 함정 103척과 헬리콥터 6대, 군인, 경찰, 민간인 등 2천명 이상을 사고 현장에 투입해 방제작업을 펼치고 있습니다.
그러나 강한 바람과 3 m 가 넘는 높은 파도로 7일 방제작업에 많은 어려움을 겪었습니다. 사고 지역은 조수 간만의 차가 커 유속이 빠른데다가 바람의 방향이 북서풍으로 바뀌면서 기름띠가 해안으로 밀려들어왔습니다. 한국 당국은 그러나 8일 날씨가 전날보다 좋아져 방제작업에 가속도가 붙고 있다고 말했습니다.
이번 사고는 충남 태안군 만리포 북서쪽 5 km해상에 정박중이던 14만 6천t급 홍콩선적 유조선에 삼성물산 소유의 1만 1천t급 부선이 충돌하면서 발생했습니다. 이번 사고로 유조선 오일탱크게 구멍이 나면서 1만t 이상의 원유가 바다로 유출됐습니다.
한국 해경과 지역 당국은 신속한 피해 복구를 위해 태안반도 일원을 특별재난지역으로 지정해 줄 것을 중앙재난안전대책본부에 요청했습니다.
